Lister Haigh were happy to kick off a gloomy February by attending the Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show, it was great to see so many familiar faces there and catch up before farm calendars begin to get even busier!

DEFRA Proposals: Tackling Water Pollution

DEFRA has launched a consultation on proposals aimed at reducing water pollution from farming, while trying to make regulations easier for farmers to follow going forward.

Key points in the proposal include:

• Protecting rivers, streams & other water sources: for example, spreading sewage sludge on farmland may come under stricter environmental permitting rules to reduce harmful runoff.
• Simplifying water-related rules: helping farmers understand and comply with environmental regulations more easily.

This consultation is part of delivering the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan, encouraging sustainable farming practices, which includes reducing ammonia emissions and other environmental impacts. Read the full press release here.

Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) – Claim Deadline Reminder

A reminder to clients that the deadline for submitting Farming Equipment and Technology Fund (FETF) claims is midday on 31 March 2026.

To ensure your claim is processed smoothly, you will need the following information:

• A copy of the invoice
• A bank statement showing payment
• Photographs of the item
• The serial number of the item (where available)

We recommend preparing this documentation in advance of the deadline to avoid any last-minute issues.

Hedge Cutting & Trimming Timings

We are now in the last month for cutting or trimming hedgerows. Any hedgerows which are covered by the rules must not be cut from 1^st March to 31^st August. If you need advice or help applying for exemptions, we’re happy to assist. More details on rules and exemptions can be found here.
