North Yorkshire Council Reopens Call for Sites Consultation

North Yorkshire Council has officially reopened its Call for Sites consultation for a limited six-week period, giving landowners, developers, agents and interested parties another opportunity to submit land for consideration as part of the emerging North Yorkshire Local Plan.

The consultation period opens at 9:00am on 11 May 2026 and closes at 11:59pm on 22 June 2026.

The Council has advised that it cannot guarantee the Call for Sites process will be reopened again in the future, making this an important opportunity for anyone wishing to promote land for potential development.

What is the Call for Sites?

A Call for Sites is a process used by local authorities to identify land that may be suitable for future development. Submitted sites are assessed by the Council and may be considered for allocation within the Local Plan for uses such as:

  • Residential development
  • Employment land
  • Commercial uses
  • Renewable energy projects
  • Mixed-use schemes
  • Community or infrastructure uses

Submitting a site does not guarantee allocation or planning permission, but it is an important first step in ensuring land is considered as part of the plan-making process.

Why This Matters

With the North Yorkshire Local Plan shaping future growth across the county, the reopening of the Call for Sites provides a valuable opportunity for:

  • Landowners considering future development potential
  • Developers seeking strategic opportunities
  • Promoters and agents acting on behalf of clients
  • Businesses or organisations with surplus land holdings

Missing this submission window could mean waiting until a later stage of the Local Plan process, with no certainty that additional opportunities to submit sites will become available.
