Homebuyers can sail into historic Georgian manor house in sought-after village

A Grade II* listed eight bedroom Georgian manor house that is steeped in history and is one of Stockton’s finest homes, complete with a leisure wing, swimming pool and separate coach house, is for sale with rural property consultancy, Lister Haigh.

Admirals House in the village of Norton dates from 1762 and was built for Admiral Policarpus Taylor to live in after he retired from the British Navy. He is buried in the north transept of Norton Church.

Nick Talbot is head of Lister Haigh’s residential division. He said: “Admirals House is an immaculately presented and beautifully maintained home in a highly sought after village location.

“Norton is always popular with homebuyers because of its active community and good range of independent shops, cafés and pubs. The charming village has a village green and duck pond, together with a tree lined High Street, as well as being just half a mile from the A19. Red House School, which is a private school for children aged between three and 17, also draws homebuyers into Norton.

“The property and all its period features have been restored in recent years and now it’s a superb family home with a stunning leisure wing and a self-contained cottage, so it’s already generating interest from a wide range of homebuyers.”

On the ground floor, there’s a reception hall, drawing room, dining room, sitting room, family room, study, breakfast kitchen and utility room. The leisure wing has an indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym and changing rooms. Upstairs there are seven bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The separate coach house has a living room opening to a kitchen, bedroom and a bathroom. The property also has extensive private parking, a double garage and a garden store. The large walled gardens cover approximately 1.1 acres and include a vast lawn and large pond.

Earlier this year, Lister Haigh was acquired by Dacre, Son & Hartley which has a 200-year heritage and offers a comprehensive range of services from its 18 offices spanning residential sales and lettings, agricultural management, planning, and commercial investment advice. Founded in 1919, Lister Haigh has long been synonymous with Yorkshire’s rural property market.

Admirals House is for sale with a guide price of £2.35m. Contact Nick Talbot on 01423 860322.
