Established for over 100 years,

The business was started by Oswald Lister in 1919. He was joined by his son, Michael in 1949 and they established a well-known business of Yorkshire agricultural auctioneers and valuers, alongside their own farming operations.

John Haigh joined Michael Lister in 1990 after 13 years in the Valuation Office. Catherine Johnston joined the firm in 1993, from the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.

In 1994 the business moved to its current office at 106 High Street, Knaresborough. There it expanded to provide an even wider range of services. In 1996 John Haigh took over the running of the firm, expanding the estate agency, planning, compensation and agricultural advice departments.

In 1999 the survey and valuation business (John Hope Chartered Surveyors) at Rydal house, Harrogate was acquired. Then, in 2002, James Johnston, Boroughbridge was incorporated.
